STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Swedish Parliament on Thursday, recognized the Turkish Genocide over Armenians, Pontic Greeks and Assyrians.  After a really long debate the Parliament of Sweden officially recognised the extermination of 1.5 million Armenians, 250,000 to 500,000 Assyrians and about 350,000 Pontic Greeks in Turkey,  as an act of genocide, with 131 to 130 votes.

Turkey rushed to denounce the Swedish Parliament’s resolution, recalled the Turkish ambassador from Stockholm, while

the upcoming visit of the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan which was scheduled for next week, was cancelled.

We remind that earlier this month,  US Congress panel passed a resolution recognizing also the Armenian Genocide.  Turkey responded by recalling its ambassador from Washington for consultations.
