Fourth victim in [FYR]Macedonia shootout identified as fugitive ex-NLA commander

Excerpt from report by Kosovo public broadcaster RTK’s Radio Kosova on 13 May

[Announcer] Harun Aliu, the chairman of the National Alternative party [in FYRMacedonia], known as Commander Kushtrim, is the fourth person killed in the incident that happened yesterday between the Rashce [Rasce in Serbian] and Radusha [Radusa] villages near Skopje. Harun Aliu’s lifeless body has been handed over to his family in Skopje.

[Skopje correspondent Besnik Iseni] Harun Aliu, the chairman of the National Alternative party, known as Commander Kushtrim, is the fourth person killed in the incident that happened yesterday between the Rashce and Radusha villages near Skopje. His family found Harun Aliu’s lifeless body in Skopje’s Hasan Beg mosque where it had been allegedly left by the police.

Aliu had been sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment by a [FYR]Macedonian court. He was accused of organizing a group that murdered a [FYR]Macedonian police officer in January 2008.

Aliu used to be a member of the Kosovo Liberation Army [KLA] and was one of the founding members of the National Liberation Army [NLA; UCK in Albanian].

In yesterday’s armed clash between the armed group and the [FYR]Macedonian police, Xhafer Shala of Pristina, Shaban Zenuni of Merove [Merovac] village, and Qemal Fejzullahu of Gercec [Grcec] village near Skopje, also lost their lives.

Today, the [FYR]Macedonian police arrested two more persons near the Svilare village in Skopje area who are suspected of belonging to the group that transported arms.
