Faroe mint
It would be logical, as in any other Greek colonization movement to a new settlement in the doubles Pharos forges your money like cash parent city. But at the time of Pharos, Paros is minted its own money (the period from 480th to 357th year before Christ), and Faran could not forge their money to the doubles model. As an example availed them Corinth (Syracuse). Faran on their first coins, minted in bronze and silver, have the head of Zeus from the front, a goat and letters ΦAPI (ON) – meaning the money people Pharos – on the back. Zeus does not show the famous doubles money, and money to Syracuse was not until mid-fourth century BC, ie after the first coins were minted Pharos (forged from the early 4th century BC).
It is interesting that of Paros after the 300th BC. Christ, minted coin with the head of Demeter and the skin on the front and letters ΠAPI (ON) and ivy wreath on the back side. One of these coins were found in the Pharos. The second, also silver coin of Paros, a view Kore (Demeter’s daughter Persephone) on the front side and an inscription ANAQIK / MIC and the skin on the back. Similar coin minted in the Pharos: Kore with his head on the front and the skin and letters ΦA (Rioni) from the rear. This similarity indicates a constant connection between a parent and a new village center.
Last series farskog money have the head of a young man, sometimes with a laurel wreath, front and kantharoi (drinking glass) and letters ΦA (Rioni) from the rear. This series has many different variants and forging quality, from good to very bad copies. In particular, the low quality of those series that marks prekovane Ballaiosa (unknown Illyrian ruler). Many of these coins were found in the Pharos.
As witnesses to the volatile times in the horizon, or the informal economy, can serve a two bronze coins of the hoard of Pharos. One otkirvena mid-19 century the position Škudljivac. It includes older series of money Pharos, a few coins unknown Adriatic Heraclea, and over money with the name of Pharos Ionia, most likely the local rulers from the neighboring island of Vis – Issa. The latter is found in Vrbanja 1900th year and make the money later shows Faroe mint.
Faroe has ceased production of money in the first century BC.
In addition to the money of Pharos in the Old City was discovered and a lot of money of other Greek city-states, which indicates a broad commercial activity between the Pharos and other Mediterranean world. Were also found coins of the Roman republic, and the earliest date from the third century BC.
