FYROM and Kosovo are Poorest States in the Balkans

FYROM and Kosovo have the highest percentages of poor people among their populations compared to the other countries in the region, Fyromian media reported today.

The World Bank’s data showed that 45 per cent of Kosovo’s population is poor and families have at their disposal less than 43 euro per month, according to the Fyromian newspaper Utrinksi Vestnik.

In FYROM, 22 per cent of the population is poor, compared to 18 per cent in Albania, 16 per cent in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 12 per cent in Montenegro and 10 per cent in Serbia.

The high percentage of poverty in Kosovo, Utrinksi Vestnik wrote, is a result of many factors, including that it was the least developed region in erstwhile Yugoslavia and the damage done during the war in 1999.
