Thessaloniki is the original name of Thessaloniki. She was a half sister of Alexander the Great and wife of Cassander. It has never been officially called Solun except by the Slavs and Bulgarians.

And the name of your old town…Heraklea…is named after the Greek mythical hero Herakles (Hercules) from whom the Ancient Macedonian dynasty believed to descend.
