Nassau William Senior in his  Journal Kept in Turkey and Greece in the Autumn of 1857, and the Beginning of 1858 (page 32), includes a conversation between himself and a Frenchman who lived in Turkey. When the author asked the opinion of the Frenchman regarding the future of most regions under Ottoman rule he got the following reply:

Quote:

Macedonia and Thessaly must OF COURSE BE RESTORED to Greece, from which they ought NEVER to have been divided. In fact, they would give themselves to Greece. Nothing BUT FORCE seperates them from THEIR fellow-COUNTRYMEN on the other side of he absurd frontier line which the protecting powers drew across Greece.
Its really interesting what the Frenchman who had already visited all the corners of Ottoman empire testifies about the region of Macedonia.
