 Nassau William Senior in his "Journal Kept in Turkey and Greece in the Autumn of 1857, and the Beginning of 1858" (page 32), includes a conversation between himself and a Frenchman who lived in Turkey. When the author asked the opinion of the Frenchman regarding the future of most regions under Ottoman rule he got the following reply:
