FYROM - Clash between the Major of Skopje and the Government

In brief, Trifun Kostovski, Skoplje’s Major refuses the Government proposal to put a 15 meters tall statue of Alexander the Great in center of the city. Kostovski justifies the attitude of city’s authority with the one-time 99 year lease of the central “Makedonija” square granted to the city by the Government, while Gruevski’s people claim that this agreement may be canceled at any time.

The positioning of the 15 meters tall horseman statue (including the pedestal with bronze fountains) is scheduled for early January. Two days ago Gruevski opened the “Phillip II” square in Skoplje’s “Gazi Baba” mostly Muslim municipality.
