Australia need not become another victim of fraud & forgery
Nick Michael Hodges
They say that you should not argue with an idiot especially when he happens to be insane, paranoid and schizophrenic and a real psychopath who indulges himself in doing time-consuming research in order to find dubious and deceitful information to cast some doubt on the Hellenism of the ancient Macedonians while he never, ever tried to present the slightest possible information on what, if anything, gives him and his South Slavonian Slavs of former Yugoslavia the right or the authority to call himself and his South Slav comrades by such a foreign and Greek name as the ancient Macedonian name which was and has been the name that the ancient Macedonians used to call themselves in order to indicate their way of life and their land as the mountaineers and the highlanders who lived in the far away northern part of the ancient Hellenic world and at a time and a territory that no South Slavonian Slavs ever existed but simply made their appearance about a thousand years later than Macedonia became a Roman Province.
Before I go on with my response to Mr. Stefov, I would like to ask him and his comrades a) what, if anything, makes them “Macedonians” as they like to call themselves, b) how did they become so, c) when did they become so, and d) why did they do so? If Risto Stefov or anybody else can come up with any evidence, regardless of how small it may be, I may be willing to put it in a gold frame and stud it with diamonds.
Now, I would like to concentrate to the main points that Risto Stefov mentions in his article published in the American Chronicle on September 25, 1911 as a rebuttal to the one published again in the American Chronicle by Paul Kyritsis, the Executive Director of the Australian Macedonian Advisory Council.
I do not believe that Mr. Kyritsis ever tried to educate, enlighten or advice the Australians how to think and how to act regarding the Macedonian name issue but I do firmly believe that Risto Stefov is doing so himself by making available to the Australians information which in his convoluted mind he is misinterpreting it to mean that the ancient Macedonians were not Greek people and, therefore, by insanity, paranoia and schizophrenia he is trying passionately to misinform, mislead, misguide and deceive the Australian people to fall into a political trap and get victimized by accepting him and his South Slavonian Slav comrades , but fraudulently so, as the modern day “Macedonians” and recognizing their country by the fraudulent but so-called constitutional name of Republic of ´Macedonia” which in reality is nothing more than a constitutional scam which is intended to be used not only to usurp the Macedonian Greek legacy but also to victimize the Hellenic identity of Macedonia and undermine the Greek sovereignty of that historic land that has never had anything to do with the South Slavonian Slavs who fraudulently think that by calling themselves by the “Macedonian” name they may automatically become the people of that name and the people of that land and, therefore, they could be entitled to make claims to the Macedonian land as though it belonged to them although these South Slavonian Slavs never owned or lived in any Macedonian land except for the small territory of Pellagonia which they occupied from the Macedonian Greek people during the Balkan wars of 1912, 1913 and with military might of the Serbian army.
It is true that the South Slavonian Slavs have been to victimize 120 or so countries to, fraudulently, recognizing their country as the Republic of “Macedonia” but I do not think that Australia needs to be the next victim of fraud and forgery. Besides, almost with no exception what do those countries know about ancient Macedonia and what did these countries care about the name when they recognized a newly formed country with the fraudulent Macedonian name that they do not know anything about it or if they did, it really did not matter to them or perhaps they did not know what they were doing just like many years ago we experienced almost the same thing when Pontius Pilate ordered Christ to be crucified and let Barabbas go free because his people yelled louder than the other ones.
The Greeks did not need to portray the ancient Macedonians as Greeks and they had no reason to do so because the whole world knows, and there is voluminous literature available, that the ancient Macedonians were Greeks not because the Greeks portrayed them as such but because they were Macedonian Greeks and they said so themselves and proved it with their deeds and the spread of Hellenism throughout the known world and, if it was not for the ancient Macedonians, the cultural Hellenic identity and Hellenism would have been confined to the Balkan Peninsula.
It may be true that in antiquity the boundaries of Hellas(Greece) did not extend farther than the Ambracian gulf in the south and the river Peneus in the north but that was before the emergence of the ancient Macedonians who together with Epirotes provided the Northern and the North-Western people of the Hellenic world. There was certainly the Greek mainland or Greece proper but there was also what you may call extended Greece and the fact that some ancient scholars do not include ancient Macedonia as well as Epirus as part of ancient Greece does not in any way mean that people of those two kingdoms did not belong to the Hellenic race or that ancient Macedonia and Epirus were not part of the Hellenic world but the Hellenic world was not always united and it took a little longer for ancient Macedonia and Epirus to become integrated with the rest of the Greek country that somehow may have excluded them from the beginning for whatever reason.
It may be possible that Isocrates is right by saying that Philip” ancestors may had left Greece entirely and founded their kingdom among people of non-Greek race or at least some of them were or if not many but Isocrates might have also known that there were no non-Greek people in other Greek city-States or that the other Greek city states were not inhabited by a purely Greek people. What is it, then, that Mr. Stefov is trying to tell us about ancient Macedonia? Is it that it was not a purely Greek city State or that it was a kingdom with a mixed population? There might have been Pelasgian and Phrygian people out there but they were probably expelled and if any of them remained they accepted to live with the Greeks and like the Greeks and not only in ancient Macedonia but in all parts of ancient Greece.
If ancient Macedonia was not purely Greek, then, so was almost any ancient Greek city state because there were slaves among them while ancient Macedonia had no slaves, domestic or foreign. In a way you may look at ancient Macedonia as being just as Hellenic in its population as any other Greek city state. How ironic for Isocrates to keep asking the Macedonian kings to undertake a Pan-Hellenic campaign that required the Macedonian kings to leave Greece as well as Macedonia and go away to foreign lands to avenge the Persians, spread Hellenism and extend the Hellenic world. Is Isocrates contradicting himself or is it that the Macedonian kings were not thinking at all about leaving Greece entirely, as Mr. Stefov wants us to believe, but expanding Greece and the boundaries of the ancient Hellenic world to the north and later on to the east.
So, then the Greeks had a good reason to proclaim their liberation from the Macedonian rule when Rome defeated Macedonia because they thought they would get back to the old city state- system they were used and they wished that they would get it back with the help of the Romans but the Romans had another surprise for them and a tyrannical yoke that made them wish that they could bring the Macedonian rule back again but it was too late because they were promised freedom from the Macedonian rule but they got Roman tyranny imposed upon them that lasted a very long time to make them realize how good they had it under the Macedonian rule and, therefore, regret it for a long time afterwards. However, the liberation that the ancient Greek city –states were trying to achieve was not from a foreign Macedonian kingdom but from a Macedonian Greek kingdom whose rule they despised just like they would have despised an Athenian or a Spartan Greek rule that may have been imposed upon them as a result of a military defeat in a war against them.
I was born and raised in Macedonia, Greece and I studied ancient Greek and I know very well what Demosthenes said when he said that he wished his strength was equal to his wisdom and I know well that Demosthenes never used the word ” enslaved” as Mr. Stefov wants us to believe but he used the word “ruled” when he was saying that if he had as much power as wisdom , no Macedonian king would have ruled over the Greeks. I know what he is trying to say and that is that the Macedonian king was not a Greek. I would like to ask my readers what they think that the Athenians would have said if the Spartans had defeated them during the Peloponnesian war and taken control of Greece. So, I say to them that if the Athenians had as much power as they had wisdom, then no Spartan king would have ruled over the Greeks. Now, does that mean that the Spartans were not Greek as Mr. Stefov is trying to imply regarding the Macedonian king?
With regards to the fallen Greeks at Chaeronea there was no burial of freedom for Greece but only for the Greek city- states which were losing their independence as isolated cit states and had a hard time accepting that reality and especially from a Macedonian king who was really provoked by the Southern Greeks because they , and especially the Athenians and the Thebans, thought they would make final confrontation with them and defeat the Macedonian army for good but it did not happen that way and they lost but they did not lose the battle and their freedom to a Macedonian non-Greek but to a Macedonian Greek king who was thought to be inferior and weaker than the Athenians and the Thebans who, of course, thought of themselves as being invincible and superior than the northern Macedonian Greeks . I would like to conclude this paragraph by reminding Mr. Stefov and his South Slavonian Slavs that the war at Chaeronea was a civil war among so many such wars that were fought among the ancient Greeks and the loss of the freedom that was enjoyed by the city-states before that war was replaced by the gradual establishment of a Greek federation that was not only needed but it was really necessary for the good of the country of ancient Greece.
I would like to inform Mr. Stefov and his South Slavonian comrades not to jump to any absurd conclusions in order to justify the fraud and the forgery of the Macedonian Greek name by telling his audience that the Greeks at Chaeronea were fighting the ancient Macedonians in order to “safeguard the liberty of Hellas” but in reality that war was fought to safeguard the liberty and the preservation of the institutions of the two most powerful city-states of Athens and Thebes and the continuation of their dominance and supremacy in central Greece which was known at that time as the geographical area of Hellas. How could the war at Chaeronea be thought of as a war for safeguarding the liberty for the people of, say, Thebes when Thebes was the city-state that had fought on the side of the Persians when Xerxes invaded and fought to occupy Greece?
It is true that the ancient Macedonians defeated the Athenians and the Thebans although they did not really conquered them but they subjected them to the Macedonian Greek rule, something that the Athenians and the Thebans would have done to the Macedonians had they won the war or the battle at Chaeronea. Obviously, it has always been a bad experience for the ancient Greek people when they were defeated either by a foreign invader or a local one, such as another city-state because the losers become subject to the rule of the winner, the victor or the conqueror and, consequently, they lose not only their institutional but their personal freedom as well. The winner of the war will need to protect his gains from the defeated people who will be always looking for any opportunity to fight back and try to get what they have lost. So, if the ancient Macedonians set up garrisons in Athens, they did that simply to protect themselves and to establish their hegemony over the ones that fought against them. I believe that the Athenians and the Thebans would have done the same thing, had they themselves become the winners of that war.
As I said earlier, the fact remains that the battle at Chaeronea was a civil war that was fought between two groups of rival Greek people who fought against each other in order to impose the winner´s system of power and politics to the one who would end up being the looser. When Greeks of the mainland or the area of Peloponnese defeated other Greeks they did just as bad or worse to the vanquished ones and that seems to be acceptable to Mr. Srefov but not so when the Macedonian Greeks did that to the Athenians and the Thebans.
If we were to assume for a moment that the South Slavonian Slavs used to inhabit their present country land in antiquity, then what would Herodotus, Demosthenes, Isocrates, Strabo, Scylax, etc. say about those people? Would they identify them with the ancient Macedonians or rather with the ancient Paeonians and Dardanians who were the only ones that lived there at that time in antiquity?
I think it should very clear to all of us that the South Slavonian Slavs have invented and developed their “Macedonization” scam in order to, say, “crucify” the Greek identity of Macedonia and, then, “resurrect” it with a Slavic one that would portray the South Slavonian Slavs as the modern Macedonians and give them the fraudulent right to the whole Macedonian Greek legacy and the ancient Macedonian region of northern Greece. It is not just the Macedonian name that the South Slavonian Slavs are after but what such a name could make them be, that is, the fraudulent modern “Macedonians” who think that they can make fraudulent land claims to the northern Greek territory which happens to be the classic and historic land of ancient Macedonia which has nothing to do with the country of the South Slavonian Slavs other that they, too, want to use, but fraudulently, the same name of “Macedonia” for themselves for reasons that I tried to explain in earlier paragraphs.
Mr. Stefov, neither you nor your South Slavonian Slav comrades are “ethnic Macedonians” because you and your people are not and can never be “Macedonians” either by way of your land which in antiquity was ancient Paeonia and Dardania or the people who have always been Slavic people and totally unrelated to the ancient or present day Macedonian Greek people. There is testimony that your Slavic people did not exist in the Balkans for at least one thousand years after Macedonia became a Roman province. Your South Slavonian Slavic people did not exist there not only when Alexander the Great was getting the Greek people together for his expedition to Asia but they were also not were when St. Paul visited Macedonia and preached the Word of God to the Greek people who inhabited that land. You and your Slavic people did not exist there when the Macedonian Greeks were fighting against the Roman conquerors.
So, how can you and your Slavic people and especially Mr. Gruevski lie to the people of the United Nations and all those who were listening to him saying that he,Mr. Gruevski himself and his South Slavonian Slavic people are “Macedonians”, they speak a “Macedonian” language and live in the Republic of “Macedonia” when you are all Slavic people totally unrelated to the Macedonians either by way of the land or the people and you speak not a “Macedonian” language but a Serbo-Bulgarian language and above all the name Republic of “Macedonia” is the most fraudulent name that was ever allowed to be used by Slavic people who have always lived within the ancient territories of Paeonia and Dardania and outside the classic and historic borders of ancient Macedonia.
So, Mr. Stefov, you and your South Slavonian Slavs who are not at all ethnic “Macedonians” but ethnic Anti-Macedonians have nothing to get from us, the Macedonian Greek people because there is nothing in the Macedonian region of Greece that belongs to the South Slavonian Slavs because no land or anything else was ever taken away from you since you never had anything that could be taken away from you. You and all the South Slavonian Slavs know very well that Pellagonia was the Macedonian territory taken from us by the use of force and the help of the Serbian people during the 1912 and 1913 Balkan wars because the Greeks were fighting against two enemies, the Bulgarians and the Serbians and in our struggle to contain the Bulgarians we lost the Macedonian land of Pellagonia to the Serbians.
As I said earlier there is no such thing as a “Macedonian” Slavic language but only a Serbo-Bulgarian language which the Slavophone population in Hellenic Macedonia may be allowed to speak at home and in public places and there is no reason for the so-called “Macedonian-Hellenic” dictionaries to exist or to be promoted by some anti-Greek and anti-Macedonian Slav-minded people in order to promote the Serbo-Bulgarian language, portray the Slav-minded small population as “Macedonian” and assign a Slavic identity to the ancient Macedonian language which has always been Greek, known as the Greek “Koene” language.
What is the purpose of all this propaganda that is being promoted by the South Slavonian Slavs, the descendants of certain old time Bulgarian renegades who had settled in Macedonia, Greece many years ago and perhaps a few Greek renegade Slav-minded people? Is it intended to confuse or even identify the South Slavonian Slav identity with the Macedonian Greek identity and use the Macedonian Greek name to identify the South Slavonian Slavs and certain other Slav-minded people but not the Macedonian Greek people? Or is it really a very ingenious and well-thought South Slavonian Slavic scam that intends to practically make the Macedonian Greeks disappear or non-existent and, therefore, make it look that the only “Macedonians” left are the South Slavonian Slavs, certain descendants of Bulgarian renegades or the few Slav-minded Greek renegades?
So, the “Macedonization” scam of the South Slavonians does not stop here but goes on much further in its way of deception, fraud, and forgery by trying to present these newly created South Slavonian Slavs and ethnic Anti-Macedonians to be thought of as the only people who can claim the Macedonian legacy and the Macedonian land that is under Greek sovereignty. Well, it is like a blank check or like giving them access to our Macedonian treasure. As I said earlier it is not just about the Macedonian name but what that name entitles the South Slavonian Slavs to get their hands on and they are not hiding their criminal intentions at all but they are getting more demanding as more nations get trapped into the “Macedonization” scam and get victimized by making it probable but not possible that the Macedonian name may become theirs, but I say it never will, and, then, they falsely hope that they may get everything that that name may allow them to steal from the Macedonian Greeks but the Macedonian identity fraud and forgery will be contested and defeated and the Macedonian Greeks will be vindicated and succeed like they always have done in the past.
As I said earlier, Greece did not occupy Macedonia but fought hard against the Turks as well as the Bulgarians and the Serbians who were so eager to devour Macedonia but the Serbians managed to take away the Pellagonian region of Macedonia because Greece was fighting an uneven war against two Slavic nations and could not win without the loss of Pellagonia to the Serbians who were supposed to be our allies but they proved to be just as eager as the Bulgarians when they were given the opportunity to grab land for themselves.
Let it be known that Macedonia was liberated from the Turks, the Serbian and the Bulgarian Slavs in the years 1912 1913 and became an integral part of Greece since then but Macedonia as well as the rest of Greece was under Roman, Byzantine and Turkish occupation for hundreds of years just like other Balkan countries including Bulgaria and Serbia. Greece did not have an opportunity to establish a united or federated nation because as soon as the foundations were laid out for united or federal union of the Greek city-states, Macedonia and the other Greek city-states ceased to exist and became Roman provinces.
However, Macedonia together with the other Greek city-states continued to constitute the Hellenic world even under foreign occupation but since there was no way for the occupied Greeks to get together, therefore, there was no opportunity for a Hellenic union or federation as the foreign occupants would never have allowed that to happen until they became weak and not able to control the occupied Greek people any longer. It is true that we did not exist as a Hellenic nation but we existed as Hellenic people. Besides, the idea of a national unity took a long time to develop and I think the Greeks did very well when taken into consideration the fact that they were under foreign occupation for a long, long time.
The ancient Macedonians did not just remain an integral part of the Hellenic world but Hellenized many foreign people and especially the Paeonians who were the historical ancestors of the South Slavonian Slavs.
Mr. Stefov, do not confuse the ancient Macedonians with the South Slavonian Slavs because you call yourself and your people, but fraudulently, by the same Macedonian Greek name that your people imported from us and want to use for themselves as their own. The name does not make you what you are but you chose or make up a name that tells others who you are or what you are. The ancient Macedonian chose that name for themselves, and a very, very, very long time ago before you and your Slavic people appeared in the Balkans, and they did so because they wanted to be known as the mountaineers or the highlanders who lived a little north of the other Greeks and a slightly different life style than the other Greeks did although all the ancient Greek tribes were somewhat different from themselves.
Also, let me make it known to all my readers that neither the ancient Macedonians nor the other Greeks looked upon each other with contempt as Mr. Stefov and his South Slavonian Slavs seem to be doing towards the Greeks and for obvious reasons. There were times that they were involved in wars with each other and there was a lot of killing among them. That was typical among the Greeks at that time as it was so in other countries.
On one hand they did seem to differ with each other but on the other hand they seemed to complement each other.
However, If Mr. Stefov would like to talk about ethnic differences or any other kind of differences between the ancient or present day Macedonians and his South Slavonian Slavs, then he can find enough differences between those two people to write many books. It seems to me that the South Slavonian Slavs look for differences between the ancient Macedonians and the other Greeks in the same way as they look for differences ethnic or otherwise that can be found between them and the modern Greeks.
So, the South Slavonian Slavs seem to think that if they and the modern Greeks look at each other today with contempt and hostility, then we must assume that the ancient Macedonians and the other Greeks must have felt the same way about each other in antiquity. In other words since the South Slavonian Slavs hate the Greeks now, then the ancient Macedonians must have hated the other Greeks as well. Who else can think that way but the South Slavonian Slavs who hate the Greeks with a passion because the Greeks are not willing to legalize the their fraud and forgery of the Macedonian Greek name that might, as they are dreaming about it, give them the Macedonian legacy and last but not least the Macedonian Greek land.
I would like to conclude this article by telling Mr. Stefov and his South Slavonian Slavs that they have absolutely and positively no right whatsoever on Macedonia because Macedonia has been a Hellenic state for more than two and a half millennia and for many years before his South Slavonian Slav ancestors were in the larva stage of their South Slavonian Slav development and if he really wanted to know something about his ancestry and that of his South Slavonian comrades, then he should have no trouble at all finding out what he and his people are made up of Paeonians, Dardanians, Illyrians, Albanians, Bulgarians and let´s not forget the Vlachs, the Greeks and the Turks, and if this is not a mongrel race of residuals then I do not know what other name I could use for it.
There are some inconsistencies in Mr. Stefov´s article and I would like to expose them to my readers. He says that the Republic of “Macedonia” name is a chosen constitutional name which means that it is a name that is not descriptive of the origin or the ancestry of the South Slavonian Slavic people or their land. In other words it was put there by the South Slavonian Slavs for deceptive and speculative reasons.
Then, he goes on by telling us that he and his South Slavonian Slavic people are not just “Macedonians” but ethnic “Macedonians”. Now, if the “Macedonian” name was chosen, then that means that it was not there beforehand and above all it was not their name to begin with. Ethnic names are those that people enjoy for hundreds or thousands of years and the name is called “ethnic” because people with these kinds of names can trace their origin or ancestry to hundreds or thousands of years back in history. A constitutional name is not an “ethnic” name and Mr. Stefov or his South Slavonian Slavs do not have any “ethnic” identity which they can trace to hundreds or thousands of years back and if they have one that is descriptive of their origin or ancestry, then it is the South Slavonian Slav identity. Consequently, there is NO such a thing as a “Macedonian” ethic identity and, therefore, the logical and rational conclusion is that the Macedonian “ethnic” identity is and has always been the GREEK IDENTITY because any so-called constitutional identity such as the Republic of “Macedonia” is a self-ascribed identity and, therefore, no constitutional or self-ascribed identity for a newly-formed nation is or can be classified or even be considered to be an ethnic identity and especially an ethnic “Macedonian” identity which means that the so-called ethnic “Macedonian” identity simply does not exist in reality but only in the convoluted minds of the South Slavonian Slavs of former Yugoslavia.
There is a Macedonian “ethnic” identity and is, I repeat, the Greek identity but there is no such thing as a “Macedonian” ethnic identity but only a South Slavonian Slav identity which should be used for their country and themselves.
