MACEDONIA NEWS — PAOK Thessaloniki shocked Tottenham by scoring twice in the first 13 minutes. Dimitris Salpingidis and Stefanos Athanasiadis scored for PAOK to give the Greeks from Macedonia a 2-0 lead against Tottenham.
A wrong decision by the referee left Thessaloniki’s team with 10 men after Konstantinos Stafylidis was dismissed wrongly for handball on the line. Luka Modric scored in the penalty and PAOK had to defend ith 10 men for almost two thirds of the match to clinch a place in the next round of the Europa League on Wednesday.
PAOK players defended heroically their goal advantage till the end, despite Tottenham’s numerical advantage who had dominated possession.
The Greek Team has 11 points from five Group A matches, one more than second-place Rubin Kazan. With Tottenham three points further back, Spurs need a big win at Shamrock Rovers on Dec. 15 and for PAOK to beat Rubin in Thessaloniki.
