Stevče Jakimovski, Mayor of Karpoš (Skopje) Abandons SDSM, Joins Serbian Party

Stevče Jakimovski, one of Europe most efficient Mayors, being in that capacity as a Mayor of Skopje’s municipality of Karpoš, decided to go without his SDSM base on the March 2013 municipal election in Skopje. Jakimovski explained by pointing out that official line of SDSM, meaning a boycott of March municipal election is contradictory, since SDSM would test the disposition of citizens more effectively with election rather than any sort of “street democracy”. He stated that he will be a candidate, with a list of advisers, for Mayor of Karpoš through right-wing Serbian Progressive Party. (SNSM).

This decision by SDSM was treated as a political apostasy, bringing Jakimovski expulsion from the party. It remains unclear how the voting base in Karpoš will react, due to the fact that Karpoš municipality for more than a decade was a bastion of SDSM.
